The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.
And this is becoming a growing problem, I think, because n

Callibrate your Wacom tutorialHad you finally made the transition from intuos 3 to intuos 4?, or Are you rich to change into an intuos 5? Had you made the transition from a first generation cintiq to the new ones?. More levels of pressure will mean more quality to the paintings, am i right?.
Did you thought that by default the pen will it be like using butter on bread?, you try it for the first time and you love all of it, you said i have sooooooo much control on my strokes im having a blast. Then only to realize you only have total control of the brush but when you are moving it really slow?. But when you do quick strokes the pressure drops a lot of paint making you redraw tons of stuff?
Did you ever thought that painter its hard to handle with new tablet? Too much pressure? If it has more pressure why i cant control more easier the beggining of the stroke which is more crucial?.

So, for those of you keeping up with my madness...

We lost the bid on the grant.

Apparently the way it works is that they have three contractors come out, they make a bid, and they have to come in under what the grant will pay (without being told how much that is). Long story short, only two showed. Third stood us up twice and then was almost 2 hours late the third time so Shad told him to get lost. The other two both came in too high, so they deemed the job "infeasible".

Good thing is, we can reapply next year. Bad thing about that is that we'd have to do some of the work ourselves beforehand in order to get it to clear if we do. Which means we need money we don't have.

Since January, Shad's been making about $200 less a month because his company cut everyone's pay in an effort to keep from firing anyone. On the one hand it was "hey, at least I still have my job." On the other, we've got less to live on and more bills to pay than we did...so...we're about $500 over budget. And as good as I am with money, I'm not THAT good. I mean, one can only make it stretch so far, yaknow.

I've got commissions coming in though

, and we're rummaging through our crap to have a hard sale now that spring is FINALLY here. I'm hoping to get rid of some of the junk we've got laying around and make a little extra. We've got to put in a new water heater and start ripping out walls (which is where the bulk of the grant would have gone - lead paint apparently) one room at a time...

I've also been working more closely with the Poser community behind the scenes, and loving it. Something to keep my mind off the continued BS at home and get to know people I've only "sorta known" for a while now. It's good for me.

The kids are finally back in school after their Easter Break.

And I can finally relax a little again. I was a complete basket case for a few days there...like involuntary-facial-ticks kinda basket case.

But...just keep chuggin' along.

I'm ridiculously behind on comments, critiques and journals though...so please bear with me

One of these days I'll be able to sit down and go through everything in my message center. And hopefully make sense when I do it, lol.

Anyhoo. Figured I would post an update.
